Summer 2020 Protocol Levels and Policies in Response to COVID-19

Based on state and local guidelines, The Maine Flag Football League programs will operate under the following policies and procedures. As local guidelines on social distancing, gathering size limits and youth activities change, the protocol level in an area may change accordingly. Our goal is to provide a fun, skill-building experience for each player. More than ever, safety is our top priority this summer! The The Maine Flag Football League  team will strive to make the best decisions based on the unique conditions and guidelines in each community we serve. 

Summer 2020 Program/League  Policies in Response to COVID-19 *These policies should be practiced at all Summer 2020 programs with adjustments based on state and local guidelines 

➢ The Maine Flag Football League will closely follow and monitor all CDC guidelines related to youth-specific activities and sports/league related policies. 

➢ The Maine Flag Football League program staff, participants and any family members must not be or have been sick within the past 14- days. Any staff member or participant who does not comply will not be allowed at programs until the 14-day minimum has been reached. 

10U-14U Protocols

 

  1. All players must have their name on their water bottle.
  2. All players must drop the flag, immediately after pulling it. No more handing the flag back to your opponent.
  3. No huddles aloud. Teams are encouraged to call plays verbally or use wristcoaches.
  4. No handshake line after games. To show sportsmanship, teams are encouraged to wave or collectively cheer “Good Game _______”
  5. Everyone but players, coaches and officials must stay in the stands and sit six-feet apart from folks who they do not shelter with.
  6. We will not play in steady rain.
  7. All players, except the quarterback must wear gloves.
  8. Officials, coaches, quarterbacks and any other person who may touch a ball through the course of the game, must sanitize hands before and after each game.
  9. Two teams are not allowed on the same sideline.
  10. All players on the sideline must stay 6-feet apart or more.
  11. All teams must use their own ball on offense.
  12. Officials and coaches should not make any physical contact with players.
  13. The MFFL uses all NFL Flag rules, all contact, (grabbing, blocking, jamming) is against the rules. These will be a point of emphasis in 2020 and “no contact” will extend to pre-game, post-game, and in game celebrations.
  14. Officials and coaches are required to wear masks while the game is not in play.
  15. No more than 25 people (players, coaches & officials) allowed on, or around, any 70 x 30 yard flag football field.
  16. All players, coaches and official must sign a COVID-19 specific waiver prior to participating in any MFFL event.
